11 And in Issachar and in Asher, Manasseh had Beth Shean and its towns, Ibleam and its towns, the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, the inhabitants of En Dor and its towns, the inhabitants of Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns—three hilly regions.
12 Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities, but the Canaanites were determined to dwell in that land.
27 However, Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shean and its villages, or Taanach and its villages, or the inhabitants of Dor and its villages, or the inhabitants of Ibleam and its villages, or the inhabitants of Megiddo and its villages; for the Canaanites were determined to dwell in that land.
28 And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites [g]under tribute, but did not completely drive them out.

בשטח התל נחפר פיר ובו מדרגות היורדות עד למפלס המעיין. מכאן נחצבה מנהרה מאורכת, על גבי שכבת הסלע האוצרת מים, המאפשרת זרימת מים מן המעיין אל תחתית הפיר, ולבסוף נחסמה והוסוותה הכניסה המקורית אל המעיין
